How to Use QR Codes for Daily Drivers
Scanning an asset's QR code is the fastest way to start a Daily Driver in the field. You can scan from two places — the Operator Menu homepage, or from within a new Daily Driver form. Both use an in-app camera scanner built into Formbird FLEET.
QR codes must be printed and attached to each asset before they can be used. See QR Codes for an Asset for how to generate and print them.
Scanning from the Operator Menu
Scanning from the Operator Menu takes you directly to the asset's page, from where you can create a Daily Driver.
- From your Works Management Operator Menu, select Scan Asset QR code.
- A camera viewfinder opens. If prompted, allow the app to access your device's camera.
- Point the camera at the QR code on the asset. The scan happens automatically once the code is detected.
- The app navigates directly to that asset's page.
- Select Create Daily Driver Check Sheet to begin the pre-start for that asset.
Scanning from a New Daily Driver Form
If you have already opened a new Daily Driver, you can scan to fill in the asset automatically instead of searching for it manually.
- Open a new Daily Driver Check Sheet. See Completing a Daily Driver for how to create one.
- Select Scan Asset QR code on the form.
- A camera viewfinder opens within the app.
- Point the camera at the QR code on the asset.
- When the scan is successful, a QR code scanned notification appears and the asset details are filled in on the form.
- Complete and save the Daily Driver as normal.
If the Scan Fails
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| No QR code scanned | The scanner was closed before a code was detected. Try again, ensuring the QR code is well-lit and held flat. |
| Invalid QR code scanned | The QR code was read, but it does not link to an asset in Formbird FLEET. Only QR codes generated from an asset record will work here. |
Note: The scanner uses your device's rear camera. If the camera does not activate, check that your browser has permission to access the camera on this device.
If the QR code is damaged or unreadable, search for the asset manually instead — either by selecting it from the table on the Operator Menu, or by typing in the Asset field on the Daily Driver form.
Setting Up QR Codes for Your Fleet
If assets in your organisation do not yet have QR codes attached, an Administrator or Asset Manager can generate and print them from each asset record. See QR Codes for an Asset.
