QR Codes for an Asset
Formbird FLEET can generate a unique QR code for any asset or material. A QR (Quick Response) code is a type of barcode that a smartphone or tablet camera can read. When scanned, the QR code opens the linked item directly in the browser — taking the person straight to the asset or material in Formbird FLEET.
The main purpose of QR codes in Formbird FLEET is to produce something printable that can be physically attached to an asset or material. For example, affixing a QR code to a vehicle means a driver or mechanic can scan it to immediately open that asset's page.
Generating a QR Code for an Asset
- Navigate to the asset.
- Open the Overlay Links dropdown menu.
- Select QR Code. This opens the asset's unique QR code page.
- Print the QR code using the Print icon in the command bar, or use your browser's print shortcut (Ctrl + P on Windows, Cmd + P on Mac).
- Affix the printed QR code to the asset in a location that is easy to scan — for example, the bottom-left corner of the windscreen or inside the driver's door frame.
When someone scans the QR code with a mobile device, they are taken directly to the asset in their browser. If they are not already logged in to Formbird FLEET, they will be prompted to log in first.
Generating a QR Code for a Material
- Navigate to the material.
- Select QR Generator. This opens the material's unique QR code page.
- Print the QR code using the Print icon in the command bar, or use your browser's print shortcut.
- Affix the printed QR code in a suitable location — for example, adjacent to where the material is stored, or on the bowser it relates to.
When scanned, the QR code opens the material in the browser. From there, actions such as creating a New Material Order are available.
What You Can Do After Scanning
Once the QR code is scanned and the asset or material is open, typical actions are available just as they would be if you had navigated to the record directly. On an asset, this includes:
- Creating a request
- Completing a Daily Driver pre-start (if prompted by your organisation's workflow)
- Viewing asset information and history
