Components
In Formbird FLEET, a Component is a part of an asset that does not have its own ID — it is considered part of the parent asset rather than a standalone asset in the register. However, components are significant enough to track separately: they have their own entries in the system with their own details, service history, and lifecycle management.

Components and Their Parent Assets
Components are created and managed entirely from within the parent asset. The Asset Components panel in the asset's Physical Details section lists all components attached to that asset, and selecting a component opens its details directly.
Because components have their own entries in the system, they can:
- Have their own service history and maintenance work orders
- Have service schedules configured to automatically generate maintenance requests
- Be linked to Asset Verification inspections
- Have warranty information recorded against them
- Be transferred to a different parent asset if reattached
- Be disposed of independently when no longer in service
See Service Schedules for information on configuring preventive maintenance for components.
Finding Components
All components are accessible from the Asset Components List, which is found in the Reports menu.
You can also view the components associated with a specific asset from the Asset Components panel in the asset's Physical Details section.
Creating a Component
Components can only be created from within the parent asset — they cannot be created from the Asset Components List. The asset must be saved before a component can be added, so components cannot be created while first filling out a new asset's details.
- Open the parent asset and ensure it has been saved.
- In the Physical Details panel, locate the Asset Components section and select New Component.
- Choose the appropriate component template from the list.
- Complete the relevant fields.
- Save the component.
Component Group Mapping
Like assets, components belong to groups that control which configuration options are available for them. Component groups are configured in the same Asset / Component Group Mapping document used for asset groups. See Mapping for more detail.
